2023 UK cybersecurity workforce to weather the upcoming IT "nuclear winter".

To assess the impact of a potential economic downturn on cybersecurity teams, (ISC)² polled 1,000 C-suite executives in December 2022 across five countries: Germany, Japan, Singapore, the U.K. and U.S. The report discusses how the cybersecurity workforce may be impacted by a recession. It is noted that the demand for cybersecurity professionals has remained strong during previous economic downturns, and that this trend is likely to continue. Several factors contribute to this trend, including the increasing importance of cybersecurity to businesses, the growing sophistication of cyber threats, and the need for organisations to comply with regulations.

Furthermore, the pandemic has affected the cybersecurity workforce, with many professionals working remotely and facing new challenges in securing their organisations' networks. Despite these challenges, the cybersecurity workforce has adapted well to the new normal and has continued to play a critical role in protecting organisations from cyber threats.

The report concludes by emphasising the importance of investing in cybersecurity talent, even during times of economic uncertainty. Organisations that prioritise cybersecurity and invest in their workforce are more likely to weather economic downturns and emerge stronger on the other side.

Overall, it is suggested that the cybersecurity workforce is well-positioned to weather a recession, thanks to the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals and the critical role that cybersecurity plays in protecting organisations from cyber threats.
